Vedanta and, over the centuries, into this philosophy of nondual Vedanta, which is a school of Vedanta, Advaita
Vedanta. So that's what I'm going to talk about this afternoon and this Google talk today in the next few minutes,
Vedanta means by consciousness something that is in our experience, not classifiable, not objectifiable
Vedanta is comfortable with evolution.
And Vedanta claims that we can all come to an understanding of this if we follow our experience guided by the insights of Vedanta.
And Vedanta claims that we can all come to an understanding of this if we follow our experience guided by the insights of Vedanta.
So Vedanta gives us a very, very precise way of defining consciousness.
Nondual Vedanta means consciousness is the only reality other than which there is no second reality.
Advaita Vedanta claims at the deepest level of our being, as consciousness itself, we are actually one.
Advaita Vedanta says you can at the deepest level because we are all one.
Advaita Vedanta is truly radical.
Advaita Vedanta says no, consciousness does not create an universe in that sense.
The Vedas are never wrong.
The Vedas is an ancient body of knowledge, like 5 or 6,000 years old.
The Vedas explain there is preyas and sreyas.
The Rig Veda was written down thousands of years after it was originally composed and so on.
So the word Veda itself comes from the Sanskrit root , which means "to know."
And that really is Veda -- the knowing.
You say veda , it means four.
My name is Shreya Vedant, and I support the Pixel software security teams here at Google as the technical program manager.
is what we call Vedant or the opanishad.
knowledge portion of the Vedas which is at least 5,000 years old and the yoga psychology was codified I mean the yog
And the claim that Vedanta makes is that when we truly know what we are, we will discover that we are not these limited beings of flesh
And the claim that Vedanta makes is that when we truly know what we are, we will discover that we are not these limited beings of flesh
But from a Vedantic perspective, this perspective which we have right now, we immediately see where they're going wrong.
But from a Vedantic perspective, that's still not correct because that's an object too.
The nondual Vedanta insists there is one consciousness, one consciousness shining through all of us.
reasonable-- Advaita Vedanta asks, why would you think there are many consciousnesses?
So this Advaita Vedanta, this nondual consciousness, this awareness of one consciousness, it can serve as a basis, as a foundation for ethics.
But what Vedanta says is that consciousness did not create, did not become this universe.
In the Vedas , they talk about the lila, or the grand play of life-- like a stage play, where we're all characters,
and the vedantic teachings all living beings especially human beings go
This is from the Vedas , which goes, "Education yields humility.
And Mimamsa and Vedanta, or getting into rituals, getting caught up in one form of thinking, or allowing the freedom to happen.
Whether the Vedas have a role to play in this is up to the individual scientist's concern."
And the Vedas recommend specific-- but there are so many, and even in other traditions.
And the Vedas are the same body of knowledge that give us yoga, acupuncture, feng shui, and Ayurvedic medicine, Ayurvedic cooking.
He also takes practical Vedanta classes in San Francisco on Thursday evenings, and I think that's something, when I'm there, I'm going to try and attend.
There are six aspects to this Veda .
The six limbs of the Veda .
Enhance all these aspects of the Veda .
So the number four is veda .
But there is something unique about nondual Vedanta.
So the first step in Advaita Vedanta is to appreciate what consciousness really is, what am I as consciousness, and then to see whatever I experience is actually not different from me,
but there is something unique about nondual Vedanta.
What is the process in Advaita Vedanta?
There are methodologies developed in Advaita Vedanta which help us in this investigation, and I will talk about one of these methods.
That shows you why Advaita Vedanta thinks there's one consciousness.
The definition of material in Vedanta is also very precise.
The final step taken in nondual Vedanta is the question of what is the relationship between this one
