Because of Sheron, other students have since organized themselves to successfully advocate for revising the uniform policy over the last 10 years.

Because of Sheron, we now have conversations as a staff about whether the policy still serves us as a school community or whether it reflects our values at all.

So day after day, Sheron showed up in a skirt, embodying the principles of civil disobedience.

At the meeting, Sheron presented the petition and made her case.

Leadership means believing, like Sheron did, that even a small action on our part might be the thing that causes a big change.

Our students, our Sherons, and all the other ones-- they're brave.

During my first year of teaching, there was this 10th grade student named Sheron who reminded me of the power one individual

And unbeknownst to them, their ability to dress in accordance to their religious beliefs at our school is due to Sheron, a student they've never met.
