Like, really atrocious. I lacked all the skills necessary for doing it. The scouting report originally was that I lacked the tools necessary to become a competitive skeleton athlete, that I might be on a small scale developmentally competitive on a lower circuit, but would never achieve a measure of success in the sport itself.
He was playing in a small town in Panama. The scouting report does not say this guy is going to win the MVP in the World Series. It says this guy might have average or slightly below average major league potential but I think he's worth a try.
And I'm prepared, because my job is to be prepared for anything. I know all scouting reports. I know everything that I'm supposed to do.
And a lot of the-- big part of the book in the scouting process was the physical skills versus the data analytics. And you're really scouting players that have no video footage on them and not a lot of information to base your decision off of. What did you see was how they were scouted ?
either because they don't have the money to go back or they're so humiliated because their parents spent their whole savings to get them over there Is it the scouting ?
They think that they've got the best players and so they try and control with a lot of possession and a lot of fast passing to each other. by Prozone or their scouting system because they send people out to collect
But to do that, to climb one of these towers, yeah, there's this huge rock towers, but you have to have cracks and features to climb. So we're scouting out an area to actually find a route that we can actually climb. And there's a really cool way to travel in Antarctica.
Or I have a place up there. But when we were scouting like Liberty-- and I just on my own-- actually before this there were producers involved when I was looking. I mean, all the stuff you see in the movie, all that signage, that's real.
They were in the back land. They were scouting the area ahead. So they didn't want people to get anywhere near that.
And I got to the first day. We went scouting , and we saw this magical forest, and I just came up with these ideas on how it would be nice to get the concept even more elaborate. And by the time of the shoot itself, it just scaled itself up.

And so Red Bull called me out to shoot him and we landed in San Diego. And we went out scouting to find stuff for him to do and we saw these rings by the airport and he was like, "Oh, yeah I can do a back flip off this thing. No problem." So the next day, this is at the end of the day, we went and shot this and it took him 5 or 6 tries to get it on
And teams are differing in how much they're using the data, what conclusions they're drawing from the data, but everyone's decided-- data, analytics-- that's part of our decision making process every bit as much as traditional scouting is. Yeah. And you mentioned in the book that-- I mean, it kind of culminated in last year's World Series where you had Theo again.
Even the analyst didn't know who was taking part in where they would huddle together, get in one circle, and get in a pack and attack forward This is an example of perfect scouting , it is a sign of perfectly seeing through the opponent's information This is a try that was chosen as one of the best plays This is where data played a big part Eddie Jones was the coach here
We all have them. He had his A&&R come just scouting and stuff.
Pretty simple set-up. Just took a little time to figure it out. I spent a whole day with Danny scouting , because he'd never been to San Diego before.
Pretty simple set-up. Just took a little time to figure it out. This is just an example of how scouting can help you out.
And one of the things that was working was the scouting side of it.
And really, the literary scouting side is what brought me on.
One of the things that I learned very early on-- scouting and doing my coaching, training, whatever-- is, what was the journey that I had with my good self?
for soccer talent. There's been a lot of research in the last 15 to 20 years about what makes a great player and what scouts should be looking for when they're scouting young kids. And the interesting thing, as you mentioned, is that they shouldn't be focused on physical characteristics.
I think it depends on what lens you look at the program through. If you look at it on a purely scouting basis, they produced some players who made it to big clubs. A lot of their players have played for their youth national teams in Africa.
They think that they've got the best players and so they try and control with a lot of possession and a lot of fast passing to each other. Just now they use a lot of stuff for scouting and so on.
I just think it's incredible that they're scouting riders in this way.
And I want to show you some of the scouting that we've done to give you a sense, kind of fill in with some images some

And anecdotally, another short story-- I recently was scouting a primary care physician because I moved to Pennsylvania and wanted adequate health
So let's talk a little bit about that percentage. And a lot of the-- big part of the book in the scouting process was the physical skills versus the data analytics. And you're really scouting players that have no video footage on them and not a lot of information to base your decision off of.
And he doesn't necessarily look 13, but he doesn't look 21, either. So the problem was is that these European scouts that went and did the scouting in Africa, I mean, they knew soccer. They came from Barcelona.
either because they don't have the money to go back or they're so humiliated because their parents spent their whole savings to get them over there Because I can imagine a scenario where let's say you recreated this same scouting project some years in the future.

But I think that one thing that I think I love to do with directors is any sort of scouting or activities related
in the mainstream media who was talking about this stuff. Who would talk analytics, and then who could also talk about the scouting side too, which is very close to my heart, just going out and seeing players.
There are actually 3 kinds hidden here First is the competitive data As mentioned earlier, we have video footage we record, so there is the data from the footage There is also the team stats, individual stats, and scouting stats This is all the data a rugby analyst extracts So, there's the video footage first There is the team stats, where we come up with data on the team's trend and patterns,

either because they don't have the money to go back or they're so humiliated because their parents spent their whole savings to get them over there So it will be interesting to see once we start to be able to get quantitative measurements of game intelligence how much of an impact that has on scouting .

where sports becomes important Our job as analysts means that you cannot win with simply this What comes to play is another factor which is intelligence There is the rugby IQ, utilizing data, using this data in scouting opponents By doing so, the intelligence to make the sport smarter and stronger is necessary So working as an analyst, I would like to roughly explain what I do as one I mainly do 6 things The first thing is preparing to record video footage of practices, and analysis
And what defense they make We also turn in the video footage as data to the coaches We also give them to the players so they can see what attacks are made The players would see the footage, and we would go on to prepare for scouting For the next task, it varies on the situation whether we make it or not But we also need to increase the player's motivation
