And you'll see the big thing, the key thing about this, is that the red line, which is our best theory of the entire universe, is called lambda CDM. Lambda , being Einstein's cosmological constant, essentially means the universe is accelerating, expanding. And then CDM, Cold Dark Matter.
So we call this the Double Dark Theory or, technically, Lambda CDM. Lambda -- Einstein's representation for dark energy-- and cold dark matter. So dark matter and dark energy.
You wrote down some axioms, and then you proved some theorems. R lambda rho mu nu.
You wrote down some axioms, and then you proved some theorems. R lambda rho mu nu is a 4 by 4 by 4 by 4 matrix.
addresses a segment of that audience and that is people working in the US tech industry. So Lambda School is a startup that provide people with the opportunity to learn new skills, code.
And so I went to groups. I went to that Lambda Group. And the Lambda Group was great for a little-- it gave relief, but there was--
I went to that Lambda Group. And the Lambda Group was great for a little-- it gave relief, but there was-- oh, I can't say there was no satisfaction.
That wasn't just it for my journey. So it's not Lambda . Where is it? So it was standing on the side of the street, on St. Paul Street in Baltimore,
So there's a power operator-- which you see is a very similar symbol to the mathematical exponentiation, it just has a dieresis above it-- Or create a little lambda function, which takes the right argument, and applies it that many times.
And Jeanne Thornton is the author of "The Black Emerald," which is forthcoming later this year, and "The Dream of Doctor Bantam," which was a Lambda Award finalist for 2012, as well as the web comics "Bad Mother" and "The Man Who Hates Fun." Please join me in welcoming these four very talented writers.
To find the total increase in phase for the whole path, we just add up all the little phase increases of all the individual sections. But we can sub in lambda equals h over mv from de Broglie, and using e we can sub in for frequency. We can also simplify by writing h over two pi as h bar.
And now I started to, again, want to find space with people that would understand. And so I sought this Lambda place in downtown Baltimore. And I would tell my mother I had to work.
so the first line in your book is the single dream and drive of my life has protests there are there's Lambda Legal
I wanted to mention-- Patrick was talking about the HIV criminalization. It's been something that Lambda Legal been involved in, really, the whole time I've been there. I've been there a dozen years, and before that.
The second thing that we need to do is, as Scott said before me, is clearly to take the blame out of HIV, to take stigma out. I am out on the website for Lambda Legal.
So since we're talking about LGBT youth today, I'd like to introduce you to Currey Cook, who is actually the Director of the Youth in Out-of-Home Care Project. He's also a staff council at Lambda , which means he's a lawyer. And he has a lot of experience working with LGBT youth.
So this event is sort of to highlight some of the work being done around LGBT youth work by an organization called Lambda Legal. Many of you guys may be familiar with Lambda already. They've been around since 1973 with the primary goal of fighting for full equality for LGBT people and those living with HIV, through primarily impact
So that process is ongoing. And one note that was pointed out to me is that Lambda has won a lot of their big victories during hostile administrations. It can be done.
It takes a year long quantum field theory course in graduate school to get the details, but at least say what every term means, including the i for example and including the k less than lambda . What you don't see are causes, purposes, or reasons why.
not easily accepted by people because they didn't think computing was something that a machine could do at that time, really. If you looked at what Church did with the lambda calculus, it was a conceptual thing. If you looked at what his colleagues, like Kurt Godel, and there were a number of really excellent logicians there at the time, they were thinking
create a machine that would do these computations. They eventually showed that recursive function theory and the lambda calculus and the Turing machine all could do all the computable functions, but that wasn't known at the time, nor was it obvious.
And I know that's also been true among the very groups that really led the charge at the beginning. I mean, I'm very proud that Lambda Legal has been in this battle since the beginning and has never let up. We brought the first HIV discrimination lawsuit in 1983, and ever since, there has been a dedicated effort and now a project Lambda Legal focused on this.
and feel still motivated to do the work. The point was parallel to that, Lambda Legal and the ACLU had court cases pending.
She was fat, opinionated, and ineffably weird looking. This is a novel called "Nevada" that I wrote that just lost at the Lambda Literary Awards.
But there's a point here, and you started to allude to it here in a second, where you said you were-- and I'm going to steal something you told us to forget about, but you said you were not satisfied because it probably was not-- it was cool, Lambda , the group that you-- but it was not-- it still wasn't cool, like how you saw yourself.
In India, only a couple of places-- at least, I know only one place where this work is going on, but it needs to be done, I think, Densities, temperatures, of lambda D, the Debye length scale, the frequencies of all the waves,
And we are seeing similar things happening in different parts of the world. And this is first thanks to the work of civil society groups, like Lambda Legal here in the US, but also groups like HIV Justice Worldwide, which is a coalition of civil society folks that have come together to challenge HIV criminalization.
The second thing that we need to do is, as Scott said before me, is clearly to take the blame out of HIV, to take stigma out. And it took me several years at my law firm-- it was a law firm before I came to Lambda -- before I felt comfortable enough to let people know.
So this event is sort of to highlight some of the work being done around LGBT youth work by an organization called Lambda Legal. Many of you guys may be familiar with Lambda already.
along the LGBTQ spectrum. So we're talking about a way over-representation, which is why Lambda has this youth in out-of-home care project that I focus on, which is because there's so many young people in these systems and we know that they have really bad experiences there, many of them, OK?
And so the paper goes on "we report measurement of the mass density and cosmological constant density omega and lambda of the universe, based on the analysis
And he's doubly surprised because he has a sheaf of papers here where there's an equation-- lambda equals 8 pi g, Newton's constant,
For shorter wavelengths or higher frequencies, you can fit more and more different vibrational modes. Inside this cube, so that in three dimensions, the total number of modes is proportional to frequency cubed, or one over lambda cubed. The expectation was there would be more and more waves inside the cube, the shorter the wavelength.
That's it. Period. Nope. We've seen pimezones. We've seen lambda particles, omega particles, hundreds of subatomic
You wrote down some axioms, and then you proved some theorems. geometry. And that's going to be captured by something called the Riemann curvature tensor, R lambda rho mu nu, four different indices.
And the observation's just shown in that lower blue line there. And you'll see the big thing, the key thing about this, is that the red line, which is our best theory of the entire universe, is called lambda CDM. Lambda , being Einstein's cosmological constant, essentially means the universe is accelerating, expanding.
of gender identity. The book, which Micah co-edited with Scott Duane, was recognized as a finalist for the 2020 Lambda Literary Awards
I mean, I'm very proud that Lambda Legal has been in this battle since the beginning and has never let up. We brought the first HIV discrimination lawsuit in 1983, and ever since, there has been a dedicated effort and now a project Lambda Legal focused on this. But as I said before, when the epidemic was no longer affecting some of the most privileged individuals,
But I think in terms of our stuff, we want to just keep supporting HRC and the task force and GLSEN and Lambda and all these things,
So we and Earth are extremely rare parts of the universe that are not typical at all. So we call this the Double Dark Theory or, technically, Lambda CDM. Lambda -- Einstein's representation for dark energy-- and cold dark matter.
That's it. So Einstein had to put in a modification to his equation, the famous lambda term.
And here is a paper in 1999, published in the "Astrophysical Journal" with a title that goes as follows, "Measurements of Omega and Lambda from 42 High-Redshift Supernovae".
Well, I was meant to be working on the third of a trilogy beginning with "Halting State" and "Rule 34"-- this being the political one titled "The Lambda
