But at some point, you're going to have to let go of what you thought was going to be and play the hand that's been dealt you, and play it as elegantly and courageously as you possibly can. That's the only way to climb yourself out of the bitterness of, this wasn't supposed to happen, and turn it into, OK, I'm still here.
But in a matter of minutes the entire attack was over. The captain survived and courageously remained on the bridge, but he was badly wounded as was much of his crew. Fires were burning out of control and the ship was already listing badly from flooding.
