called preferred pronoun but pronoun and I thought that's really interesting and then every day it seemed to me I was reading about whether it was gender non-conforming people and of course trans uh uh people have gotten a lot more attention um I think in part because of Caitlyn Jenner and you know celebrity can actually really be very
Your bullets and your guns, you know we paid for it all. Avoid conforming to the idea of the fact that you would think that you need to conform in order to reach it.
South Africa unfortunately in South Africa a lot of um lesbian or gender non-conforming women uh are raped um by gangs of men or sometimes by individual men um and uh it's called quote unquote
thinking outside of the box, going against the status quo, thinking outside of-- developing cutting-edge ideas, whereas this is not that. This is conforming to a single form of teaching and receiving. Yes. So if the whole point is that we actually need to think beyond today, think beyond the box, and yet we're teaching kids inside a box
And they're very powerful and in control at every moment in the show, which is, I think, rare a lot of times for queer folk, and especially gender-non-conforming folk who are oftentimes the butt of the joke, killed off way too soon, or just like this mythical being, like a unicorn, which is lovely, but we're more than that, obviously.
So they were like, get out. And you're not conforming to whatever cultural program is. And I was like, dude, if you want to go toe to toe back here, fine.
the government and say listen you really have to do something against this so that is one report about lesbian and gender non-conforming women second report which uh is almost finished is about the Netherlands and as you can tell from my accent I'm from the Netherlands um and people think because uh the Netherlands was the first country
And so then we start to have this second game. And the second game is conforming and potentially contorting or doing something to just feel like, I just need to be OK. Sometimes we leave and sometimes we just shapeshift a little bit.
So assuming that men should be dating women and marrying women, right? Or that you should be conforming to some sort of expectations for the sex that you were assigned at birth and the way you present yourself. And also gender identity, right?
Your bullets and your guns, you know we paid for it all. That's what I'm avoiding is conforming , not progressing and evolving on ideas, but conforming for the sake of reaching the mainstream.
And it turns out, all the ants are grooming each other all the time and probably exchanging the scent. And so it is allowed to live just because it's conforming to this scent. But that means the scent itself is changing all the time.
And so that's why seeking out those stories, understanding them, like I said, like with Me Too Movement, it was part of a collective called She Who Has No Masters. It's a collective of Vietnamese women writers and gender non-conforming writers. And we wanted to talk about Me Too, and we called it Me Too, Vietnamese Bodies.
And the old witch, you know, loses her temper, realizes that someone has been getting in, and that Rapunzel is having a baby. So this was an idea of taking-- really conforming to my ideas about the transmission and the freedom of the language of stories,
There should be a balance. There are other sharing companies do the same thing-- are not conforming to laws in terms of protecting the rights of their workers.

in schools. As Masen mentioned, there are just unacceptably high rates of family rejection, kids being pushed out of their homes when they are transgender or gender non-conforming , LGBT generally. But the numbers in every case tend to be worse for transgender youth.
And if I can piggyback on that, that's a big deal. It means now that transgender people and gender non-conforming people throughout the United States have legal recourse if they experience discrimination, as long as they work for a company that has 15 or more employees.
I will tell you a little bit about three reports that are coming out because I think they are very relevant and very important the first is about lesbian women and gender non-conforming women in South Africa unfortunately in South Africa a lot of um lesbian or gender
more nuanced stories about trans lives. So we're really privileged in those ways and the people who are not conforming aren't.
And I knew that my odds would be much less if I presented as I am now. And when you're young and don't necessarily know who-- subsuming yourself, just conforming yourself. And so I was not very familiar with much queer or lesbian literature.
But what's fascinating is-- so you've got a whole movement of people that actually gave instructions about dressing in gender-conforming ways, in order to gain acceptance.
The invisible Facebook and Google algorithm steer you toward content you agree with, and non-conforming voices stay silent for fear of being flamed or trolled or unfriended.
Throwing it in and now making it part of Latinx to somehow force people to recognize that not everybody's gender conforming I think is disingenuous.
You ask, what is it that keeps everybody doing-- conforming , basically.
It means transforming the way you're thinking, and no longer conforming any longer to the pattern of the world.
People with the most at stake, older people in a youth-oriented society, we step up, we step out, we stop conforming .
