So Tega being a social robot means that its goal is to help people with their goals.
In Tega's case, we were building it to see if a robot could help young children as they were learning how to read.
Like Tegan and I had a subscription to Spin Magazine and Rolling Stone.
And it wasn't Tegan and Sara.
And like Tegan mentioned, I use a computer as my sort of way of translating all of that into something that I then share with other people.
I really like Tegan and Sara's new record.
And it was my job to introduce Tega and get children oriented to how to use it.
It's literally-- it's Tegan and Sara's.
And so by the time Tegan came out, a lot of those same people got it right with her.

Randi Williams: So as you saw, it's Tega's job to keep the child engaged in the story.
Over the course of their career, Tegan and Sara have released nine studio albums.
And in 2016, they established the Tegan and Sara Foundation to fight for equality and gender justice.
And I became so-- I mean, Tegan loved Smashing Pumpkins as well.
And if anything was mentioned about Nirvana, Tegan was allowed to have that and put it in her room.
Whatever. But I felt like Tegan was revealing real emotion and connection and intimacy to her secret girlfriend.
But anyways, I remember feeling so mad at Tegan when I had to come out.
Yeah. This is our Austin General Manager with Tegan and Sarah.
It was actually a boy at school who had given me a copy-- well, given Tegan and I a copy of "Siamese Dream."
There were big moments that-- for example, I know, Tegan, you kind of talked about how you felt isolated when Sara and Naomi kind of moved from friendship
And Sara, I know there were similar feelings with you when Tegan started dating Alex.
And so the two of us out in the world, sort of exposed and queer-- and Tegan was living a lot-- to me,
And then also just for myself, I was exposed and had to come out earlier than Tegan.
I had this sense that I was, like, exposing Tegan in the book.
Everyone was sort of like, OK, Tegan, welcome.
My journey exploring kids and their relationships with AI began early in my days at MIT, working on this fluffy, adorable social robot, Tega.
So one day I come into the study room and I say, "Hi, my name is Randi, this is Tega.
And today they're here with us to talk about their memoir, "High School." Everyone, please join me in welcoming Sarah Quin and Tegan Quin.
The difference is that it's easier to come-- at the end of a day, to say, to my girlfriend, or to Tegan,
but you kind of gave a little bit of blueprints to kind of, like, make a mix tape as to what kind of informed the Tegan and Sara high school
So when we loved "Groovy Kind of Love" by Phil Collins, we didn't imagine, when we were 7 years old, that we were Tegan or Sara singing the song.
I'd be remiss if I didn't briefly touch on my favorite song in the world, probably favorite song, which is "Tegan Didn't Go to School Today."
And then it was, like, this haunting Nirvana-esque vocals about Tegan not going to school.
think about me. And then I think, at some point, when I realized that Tegan was also gay, it scared me.
It was, oh, god, now I have to worry about what might happen to me and what might happen to Tegan in our future.
If she had been straight, and had been acting straight, which is so funny to think about, because it's like, how could Tegan act straight?
And I just was like, oh, shit, I shouldn't say Tegan.
