So many orchestras of the world, they are playing my piece. This is the first sarod concerto in the world. There are three of us play with 60, 70 musicians around.
And you know, oh, this guy doesn't have a repertoire. So I think sarod was an obvious choice-- sorry-- was an obvious choice, because there was so much around it.
And I always wanted to be able to do all of it. I started playing sarod for a little while.
The rabab is a Afghan instrument, in Kashmir, also-- Central Asia. So they modified from rabab to sarod . And there are nearly 500 sarod players, now, all over the world.

So when I saw that about my father, I think, took life seriously. And I valued education and sarod . And I knew that sarod was the best that I had.

So while they seem to be interested, right now, it's just a lot of noise. Because they have two little sarods . And there's a lot of strumming that happens.

And I really wish they are able to carry forth the tradition of this family, because they are in an unbroken chain of the seventh generation of continuing the sarod . So I hope even the eighth generation will continue, but I can only wish them all the very best, and it has always been an honor and a pleasure

Akhansa, you come from a long line of musicians and classical performers. Yes. In fact, I've heard that the instrument sarod , itself, came from their forefathers. Can you tell us a little bit about the instrument?
Can you tell us a little bit about the instrument? Yes, actually, "sarod " is a Persian word which means music, not .. And my forefathers, they came from Afghanistan, India.
I have a question for you, Amji. You perform all around the world, often to people that haven't really heard the sarod before-- for the first time. How do you connect with your audiences?
Well, I was the mischievous one. I was not into music till a certain age, though I was introduced to the sarod and-- you know. By the time I was about 12, 13, I had a very bad show, where I saw my father, actually, embarrassed of me.
And I'm glad you can make it here today. My question for you is that, in the decades of you playing the sarod , would you say that your music has evolved over the years to adapt to the various audiences you perform to, given the increasing globalization in fusion music?
And you know, oh, this guy doesn't have a repertoire. I'm sure, one day, we can hear sarod also through keyboard.
And you know, oh, this guy doesn't have a repertoire. He thought I might become only tabla player, not sarod player.
And I always wanted to be able to do all of it. There was something that I was able to-- that I still apply in my own music by spending that two years playing sarod

I can't do everything. I can't be a Ph.D. and also play good sarod . So one has to choose right in the beginning what you want to do with your life.

I'm not . I'm not a god. If you have connection with sound and rhythm, that means it's a wish of God that you both should play sarod or you should be in the music. So you can't promote music.

And so I was teaching there. And then out of the blue, I get a call from Ali Akbar Khan, the great sarod maestro, who has his music college in Marin, and said, my tabla player has upped and gone.
So this question is both for you, Amaan and Ayaan. As technology is improving and YouTube is becoming pervasive, what do think is role of technology in spreading sarod or Indian classical music as such? And what can a company like Google do to help you spread the word?
