The Bogle criminal pater familias, as Bobby and Tracey told their stories, was their father, who is known as Rooster Bogle. Rooster was a short man with large protruding ears and dark, curly hair, and a nasty temper. He was not the most-violent member of the family.
So it was a burglary by the whole family. Rooster also did not believe in celebrating Christmas or birthdays. And years later, while he was incarcerated in the Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem, Bobby could remember only one Christmas
The route would take them past another prison outside of Salem, Oregon State Correctional Institution at Salem, which is surrounded by mounds of shiny, razor wire. Rooster would gaze at the prison, as if he was looking at some ancient castle. And he would say to his boys, look carefully.
to a tiny farming hamlet called Daylight in the hills of Tennessee, central Tennessee, near Nashville. Rooster's ancestors, it turns out, were poor farmers and con men, grifters, who tried for years to trick the federal government in Washington into giving Roosters great grandfather a Civil War pension.
So most of their children grew up almost illiterate. Rooster was the last child. And in 1958, when he was 16, he joined his brothers and his sister and his mother in burglarizing their neighborhood
That distinction belonged to his eldest son, Tony, who with his wife, Paula, were convicted of murder in Tucson, Arizona, where Tony is serving a life sentence in prison. But Rooster was the most malignant member of the family, spreading what his boys came to call the family curse like a criminal contagion, which infected almost everyone in the family over four generations.
So like 40 years, they kept filing false petitions to the government. And Rooster's own father, Lewis Bogle, continued the family tradition of being a con artist when he moved from Tennessee to Texas in 1921. He joined his uncle there, who came from Daylight, Tennessee, selling the local specialty, which was nursery trees stock, young apple and pear trees.
They arrested the Bogles. And Rooster was sentenced to five years in the state penitentiary in Huntsville. It was only after all the boys finally got out of prison and came home that their father and mother decided they should move away from Amarillo because police
The rats, I mean, they got off the ships, looked around. Vultures like to roost on those big, tall metal structures.
They sent me into a psychiatrist, who said to me, why did you check this box yes? She rules the roost and sets an example for other elders about how we should be treated throughout our lives.
And they invented a word based on the place that that animal sleeps. It sleeps in a roost , so it is a rooster. And that word gained familiarity and use in the United States, although it hasn't caught on in other places in the world.
I mean, for me, it's about aspirations. When I started Red Rooster, for you as a customer, it's the experience of going there. But for the staff, it's a learning center.

And Rooster's first thing that he has to do when he comes onstage is crow like a rooster. And I was so shy and so introverted that I was like and I was terrified.
And we see this not just with Dick, but you can plot the same history with a closely related word, "cock," which used to only refer to the rooster before the word "rooster" existed. It then gained a secondary meaning.
And again, many of us do it, but I don't think it's the kinds of ways of incorporating food into our daily lives that feel good or are very good for us. with the rooster, and you have to realize it's there, and open it up, and reach down to grab the little packet

Remember this because when you grow up, this is where you're going to live. In fact, as Rooster's seven sons grew older, they all dropped out of school. Bobby left in the seventh grade, Tracey in the eighth grade.
So basically, the rooster was still randy, but he couldn't really coordinate his actions to make his affections known.

He taught us stealing was good as long as we didn't get caught. If the boys got caught, Rooster would cut a switch off a tree and use the branch to whip the boys until their backs and legs were covered with blood.
And the boys were eventually caught and arrested and sentenced to the most-secure juvenile reformatory in Oregon. Please allow me a flashback here because the Bogles' story actually starts much earlier than Rooster. I was able to trace the family back to the end of the Civil War in 1865 in Tennessee
