And I was at a counter when Ramone Simone looked in.
His overalls fell open to a Ramones t-shirt so faded you'd have to already know the name of the band and down to a belt with a large metal buckle.
And I think my grandma might have had a boyfriend named Ramone at some point.
So I decide that I'm going to go by Ramone .
And so when I heard bands like the Ramones and the Sex Pistols and Blondie, I was like, wait, I can do this now.
It's a book of photographs that I took of The Ramones in the first two years I was with them as their manager.
This is a shot from the second to last Ramones tour.
I did that for a year, and then Ramone Simone said, you'd be great as a real estate broker.
And then almost seven years to the itch, Ramone mentioned one night, when I was dumping the pasta into the sink, he said, you know,
now so uh check it out first one is uh it's actually a Ramone
And in your book what I really found endearing was that the Ramones sent you a congratulations message, right?
And it's like, you might see the Ramones and Talking Heads and Blondie on the same bill.
But he's not my Tommy and it was no longer my Ramones .
Greg Sanders: And I was, I saw The Ramones in '81 at The Palladium.
Well, my next question was actually going to be about Ramone .
And this past February, I was at the HRC dinner with James and James's husband Ramone , and we met a young man named Mike, one of your Gayglers here.
The song was called "Tommy Says," when Tommy Ramone was telling them, your next job is in-- wherever it was.
And off I huffed and was banned from the house till I dropped that terrible guy named Ramone Simone.
And I said, you know, Ramone , this is what we're going to do.
Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Ramones , The Doors-- such a change from the music we had habitually listened to up to them.
It was all Clash, Sex Pistols, Ramones was the whole program.
The Ramones .
But it's funny because I joke and I say, some of them schools, I hope I never cross them kids again because I don't want to cross nobody who saw me as Ramone .
I bet some of them were watching "Top Gun" or watching "Insecure," and they're like, wait, that's Ramone !
And after all, he explained to me, his name was Ramone Simone, pronounced it perfectly.
I also found out from his mother Vicky that his name was not Ramone Simone, it was Ray Simon.
We were listening to the Doors, and Pink Floyd, and the Ramones .
I mean, The Doors, Velvet Underground, The Ramones , The Stooges.
And so if anybody-- I suppose if you're interested in New York and interested in The Ramones , it's a fantastic book.
