How to pronounce “portent” in English

They were always thought to be these messengers from the gods, perhaps.This idea that these things came out of nowhere unpredictably might be portents of something bad that was about to happen.We see them as beautiful objects today.

And what you see at the top here is a comet, emblazoned across the Bayeaux Tapestry.And in Latin, it says "these men wonder at the star." People here are looking up and they thought this was a portent of doom.And of course, for the English it was.
