Iain: Not so far but I wouldn't rule it out. The thing about ivory it's got an internal structure. There's a very interesting thing called schreger lines that give it it's quality
and it's beauty and it polishes very beautiful and however you carve it you've got this internal structure. Nobody's been able to replicate that in a synthetic type of ivory but if you
could make good enough expensive synthetic ivory, why not? Actually when plastic first came out in the 30's there was a collapse in the ivory market.
