And it's that rising of the land of the continent for that magma plume and the features of that tectonic Rift Valley that dried out East Africa from beneath our feet, that drove that fundamental evolutionary process.

This is a photo on a beach in Maui after a rainstorm. And what you can see in this photo is there's this plume of sort of orangey brown water that's coming off the land and flowing into a coral reef environment. That water is bringing sediments, it's bringing nutrients, it's bringing toxins, all of which are very bad for the corals.
