This Piltdown man was given pride of place in the British Museum.

And the Piltdown hoax was a fake fossil that was made out of real bits of bones.

And this is Piltdown Man.

And the story of Piltdown Man came about in 1908, when a man called Charles Dawson, who was a very flamboyant solicitor--

And this poor skull, Piltdown Man, rather elegant creature, was now taken off its pedestal at the front of the British Museum and moved to a storehouse at the back, and

And in my previous book, "Seven Skeletons," I spent time researching and writing about the Piltdown hoax, which is one of the most famous hoaxes in the history of science,

And I felt that that was a really key part in the story of why the Piltdown hoax was so pervasive and why it was so readily accepted
