Lack of . Poor management. Gender pay gap . That's what they say about the situation and why they want to leave tech. Another survey coming from the US-- another VC firm, firm, they asked to every female employee
And of course, the values are important. They closed the gender pay gap in 10 years.
And I hate to give anyone a list of to-do's ever. right now about the pay gap , about the motherhood penalty.
So first, if you think about values, women make up a huge portion of the workplace, right? But if you look at their pay gap , women are making about 20% less than men. And furthermore, there's actually a differential in what happens when there's positive versus negative performance.
I think it's how many people actually branched out, and were brave enough to leave the corporate world, and be entrepreneurs. And until the corporate world realizes and fixes its pay gap and gender opportunity problems,
And I enjoy that a lot. And sometimes CEOs get really galvanized around the pay gap , for example.
And I enjoy that a lot. Many companies don't even know what their pay gap is.

And there was an article-- I think it was, I'm trying to remember-- in the "Wall Street Journal" a couple of weeks ago. And there were these seven new apps, all about how do we hack the pay gap . And I just find that it's really interesting that there are all these new technological tools for people

And one of the things that it points out is that the UK now requires large companies to publish their gender gap figures. When PricewaterhouseCoopers in the UK did this, they discovered that almost the entire pay gap was due to lack of women in higher positions. And so they studied it, and they found out that indeed there was a serious promotion problem, just backing up your point.
And I enjoy that a lot. But then you've got Marc Benioff at Salesforce, who's the CEO there, who's doing some really radical things around pay gap stuff.
Because it always comes up, I'll tackle it early-- the name. Our name, the Wharton 22s, is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the current pay gap between men and women in America. The average-- median woman makes 22% less than the median man.
So first I want to give voice to, of course there are huge external barriers. Many of which I am sure through the Women at Google work you're learning about here all kinds of bias, and implicit and explicit discrimination, the pay gap , and so on. Right?
