But what you're seeing there is everything sort of shifts from one eye to the other. That's called "parallax ." It's because your eyes are slightly spaced apart. So they each have a slightly different view of the world.
So when the second round of VR came around in maybe the mid-2000s where the promise of, like, we fixed the parallax problem, the problem where people put on these headsets and get really, really dizzy because it's not functioning the way our eyes work in the real world.
In fact highly sophisticated techniques of projection were deployed to give a pseudo-three dimensional aspect to the pictures outside the window. And so for those of you that have very good vision, and because we have fabulous projectors here at Google, you may see a tiny, tiny red dot. So that tiny red dot is essentially the limit for the nearby stars that we can measure good parallaxes to. It's known as the solar neighborhood.
Two-dimensional backgrounds, especially for the GBA games. They're side-scrolling. And these are basically layers, where you build up the paintings in tiles, and then the layers parallax to give you a semi 3D effect. And then also 3D modeling of characters and of environments.
