Obie wants to disappear in certain moments because he doesn't know how to show up as himself and he isn't given always the space to.

Gosh, I hate it when those people are so mean to Obie.

In 2021, Schuyler also released his first middle-grade novel, "Obie Is Man Enough."

And while I am also a Korean-American transgender swimmer, I'm A, not 13, and B, Obie is not me.

And I want those cis people to read these moments of transphobia, and I want them to root for Obie.

Because as you read the book as I've designed it, hopefully, you root for Obie.

You read through it and you're like, gosh, I really want Obie to succeed.

No, it makes a lot of sense, that kind of rooting for Obie.
