So, working with my mental coach is really, really good for me because it helps me put things into perspective, get organized, and see naturalness and sincerity come first. If you say it naturally and believe it yourself, then it
But I went away feeling really, really stupid for giving this answer when I didn't really understand what the rationale was for this naturalness argument. And so I started looking into it.
And then, at some point, the argument became, maybe it needs a little higher energy. And maybe this naturalness argument works a little bit different. It's a little bit more complicated.
And that would no longer be natural. So they were introduced to solve this naturalness problem in the standard model. And I suppose I'll have to give you a little bit background what this naturalness problem is all about.
That's what good conversation is. And it gets back to this idea of myth of naturalness . We have this belief that good conversationalists are not only good writ large, they're good on the spot spontaneously.
And that's why you read all these headlines about supersymmetric particles and dark matter, extra dimensions, parallel universes, gravitons, tiny black holes. All that kind of stuff goes back to this naturalness argument. And, technically, if you look at the mathematics, it's not difficult argument.
So they were introduced to solve this naturalness problem in the standard model. And I suppose I'll have to give you a little bit background what this naturalness problem is all about. So the physicists call a theory natural, roughly speaking, if it doesn't have numbers that are either very large or very
That's the Poincare recurrence. So in your book, you talk about the concept of naturalness as a sort of-- and here I'm totally paraphrasing.
Doesn't really matter. But the point is it has to become relevant at the same energy that you discover the Higgs because, otherwise, the naturalness problem comes back. And that was the entire argument why particle physicist thought that some new physics, besides the Higgs boson, has to appear at the Large Hadron Collider.
It's obviously nonsense. And I would bet there are particle physicists who are listening right now who still don't even understand what I'm talking about because they would never read my book. They still totally don't understand, how could possibly something be wrong with the naturalness argument? But, yeah, that's how it goes.
In writing about a book that takes place in five different time periods, how do you ensure that you're faithful to the style of conversation and dialogue But actually, the superabundance of period detail oddly undermines the naturalness and convincingness of the historical account.
And then when the final proposal was accepted, it kind of happened really naturally and really organically. And a lot of the comments that we receive about the book is that there is a naturalness to the book that's reflective of the restaurant and what we do at the restaurant, that it wasn't forced.
And so later when I did become a behavioral scientist, maybe it's no surprise that I became obsessed with trying to figure out what are those people doing. That's great. And I think your book does an awesome job of demystifying some of those things and combating what you call the myth of naturalness . There's actually things that we can learn, right?
Female member #6: Hi. I loved your story of when you were in Gaza and you, you just danced with the women there and I imagine that took a lot of courage, but there was a naturalness to it and in the preface, you talk about how you learned how to dance through the slings and arrows of life and became an optimist. And I guess I'm curious about what advice you have for the rest of us who are also going through the slings and arrows and
