How to pronounce “lay for” in English

Before I touch on that in particular, do you mind if I just dip back to the lyrics for a second?Yeah, please. I mean, it's hard to have a lyric that says, "There's a price we pay for the places we lay for putting it all on the line--so far down the only sound is something leaving you behind--" like, you can't write that and not have-- you mean what I mean?
