Lavoisier wanted to understand how the chemistry of combustion worked in diamonds.
Lavoisier outlines a program of experiments and organizes all of the necessary materials for this.

And Lavoisier founded modern chemistry, but also founded modern physiology, as we call it, the modern study of the workings
And so Lavoisier is interested in this question of combustion more generally.

So here is Lavoisier .
But in Lavoisier 's time, that was very leaky.
So he thought that Lavoisier 's dismissal of phlogiston was wrong.

And indeed, Lavoisier was able to work out that there was a balance between the two.
And that led him to persecute the poor old Lavoisier , and in the end, to kill him.
So that's what happens when you unbalance the Lavoisier equation by taking in more fuel than you are able to burn.
So in that day in April, Lavoisier and his colleagues, the chemist Pierre Macquer, the apothecary Louis Claude Cadet, they burned their first diamond by putting the diamond

And between March and August of 1773, Lavoisier carries on an additional set of 19 experiments on diamonds specifically, again, trying to understand what happens to diamonds, what kind
And most of all, we see somebody call Lavoisier .
This is Lavoisier 's is famous burning glass experiment.
So all right, that's the physiology of Lavoisier .
All right, so between August and October of 1772, Lavoisier conducts 190 experiments with the diamonds, metals, and other minerals.
But actually, when you're taking the other side of the Lavoisier equation, and you're exercising like mad, it's actually a bit of a gift.
So really, that idea that we're all equal in extreme circumstances in the Lavoisier sense is clearly wrong.
And so we fast forward a couple of centuries here, and we come to this story of Antoine Lavoisier , who was an 18th century French chemist who's most
So this brings us to this truly awesome moment in the history of science, where on April 25, 1772, Antoine Lavoisier set some diamonds on fire.
And based on these experiments, as well as a number of others that were conducted over the next couple of years, Lavoisier
And in fact, on the 13th of July, 1789, the first act of the revolution was to storm Lavoisier 's wall and burn down
