The googol , of course.
A googol is a number 1 followed by 100 0's.
A googolplex is 10 to the power of googol .
A googolplex is 1 followed by so many 0's that your arm gets tired.
The name googol was invented by a mathematician and his nephew.
And a googolplex is a much, much greater number.
But a googolplex across in those kind of units.
within the googolplexian universe.
What about a googolplex?
What would a googolplex be?
And so with the googolplex joke reference, as I'm fairly sure Mike Reiss came up with that,
So our audience might know that a googol is a giant number.
That's one followed by a googol zeros.
And Milton came up with a googol .
And that's where the name googol came from.
So if everybody could prepare the word googol .
You can talk about a googolduplex, which is a 1 followed by googolplex zeros, and a googoltriplex, which is a 1 followed by a googolduplex
And so in the case of a googolplex, I wanted people to appreciate, well, how big is a googolplex?
And I call this the googolplexian universe and ask, well, what would the property be of such a large universe that's literally a googolplex across?
That's how big a googolplex is.
It is more than a googolplex.
Nobody had heard of a googolplex.
Nobody's heard of what a googolplex is.
This is going to be even bigger than a googol .
We can say it's a 1 followed by googol zeros, and that's fine.
And his nephew said why don't we call it a googol ?
Originally titled, "googol " for the French word "to lay about."
videos, things like the googolplex, Graham's number, that kind of thing.
And so you use the occasion of a googolplex to talk about the concept of our doppelgangers.
And when I saw this man talking about the number-- the googolplex-- and talking about gravity,
What should this number be, this googolplex?
But you can now ask yourself the question-- That's more than a googolplex.
That's when Karshner obviously came up with the more rigorous definition, that a googolplex was a 1 followed by a googol zeros.
On a different note, I did look up where Google came from - "googol " But there was already a "googol .com," so the site took "google.com" instead
So nowadays people may have an idea about what a googol is mathematically, what a googolplex is mathematically.
But when this first appeared on the Simpsons, nobody had heard of a googol .
And then the uncle said, OK, well a googol sounds like a good number.
That's great. In your book, you discuss a googolplex.
The cinema, the movie theater in Springfield is called the Springfield Googolplex Theatre.
Again, you have to remember, the first time the googolplex appeared in the Simpsons was back in the early 1990s, so before the company Google
So they thought of the largest number they could think of, 10 to the power of 100, a googol .
I mean, I think that the history of the googol and the googolplex is really nice, as well.
Now that's not very mathematically reliable, so the uncle said, OK, well a googol is 10 to the power 100.
Suggestion from the room was to Google G-o-o-g-o-l, the original word googol .
All Right, googol , googol , googol , yes, this is looking
Of course, he then wanted to go to an even bigger number, which he then dubbed the googolplex, as you've described.
And so I imagine, for example, a universe which was a googolplex across in, say, meters or inches.
Whoever, right? Everybody would have an exact copy somewhere else and many exact copies in this googolplexian universe.
And you can sort of estimate how far away such a copy would be, and it's significantly less than a googolplex meters.
And if I do that, then actually the distances to your doppelganger becomes much shorter, and you get many, many, many in a googolplexian universe.
