that humanity is susceptible to. We have communicable diseases. We have congenital diseases that occasionally people are born with because of mistakes in their DNA.
So let me show you one simple slide that captures that, which is this. So this is death from non-communicable diseases, which is things like cancer and heart disease. And what you see here is a number of high income countries.
Because you want to have information about how disease spreads within a population. Remember cervical cancer is a communicable disease. It comes from the human papillomavirus.
People used to die of other stuff. And mostly they died of communicable diseases-- tuberculosis and diphtheria. And we have become very good, at least in the developed world, actually to be honest quite good in the developing world,
So the advent of Medicine 2.0 made those causes of death much less common. Well, imagine doing that as a model for communicable diseases -- having these things around, so if something comes up in a certain place, you can immunize that area. You can hold the disease in that area.
